A high school diploma generally takes four years to obtain. Students must complete coursework (which varies from state to state) and receive a passing grade for all courses in order to receive their diploma. The curriculum of courses also varies in different states. Most high schools allow their students to complete their program up to three years after they turn eighteen.
Many more doors are open for those who have earned at the minimum, their diploma compared to those who have not.
